2014 Programme

5th January Bray Pit
This is the BBOWT reserve, beyond the sailing lake, where Martin is the volunteer warden.

We will be making scallops and cutting back small trees to increase the area of meadow on the reserve.

Drive down Monkey Island Lane off the A308, fork left towards the Bray Lake Watersports. Park just beyond Bray Lake Watersports – Martin is going to try to get a key for the gate and I’ll let you know if you can park any closer to the reserve.

Don’t try following satnav to Bray Lake Watersports as it might take you to Bray village.

It could be a wet day on Sunday all round. The forecast is for rain – no surprise there. The lake is high and the ground will be wet. We won’t be working in the lake but if you have wellies it might be worth bringing them.

16th February Braywick, Maidenhead
Jason has asked us to craft a ‘dead hedge’ habitat feature in the woods at Braywick. It would mean staking out a hedge line with 2m high stakes using thinned branches and then weaving smaller cut branches and brash from the thinning work to make a wattle style fence on either side of the woodland path.

Braywick Nature Centre is off Hibbert Road near the Braywick roundabout.

31st August Bisham Woods
Further work on the pond we were at last time. More clearance around, getting some of the debris out of the pond – chromes & wellies (don’t think waders required), some ride clearance – on the other side of the path from the pond going in about 6 metres and dragging the cut stuff into the wood. There were near the pond some hazel stools we coppiced last time and he would like some brash put over these as they have been nibbled (he reckons rabbits rather than deer). Paul is putting some notices up so there maybe some of his volunteers as well, he should be out – he is trying to develop his team. Hence same instructions for meeting etc
