15th January Ockwells Park and Thriftwood, Maidenhead
We will be coppicing some the smaller hazels in Little Thriftwood which are on the side of the woodland path nearest to the field. We will add the cut timber to the existing dead hedges created last year.

We will be clearing bramble in the western end of Little Thriftwood just off the bluebell path. The bramble is shading out the wildflowers which hopefully will soon bloom here again.

Firs Walk is a wooded path which runs from Castle Hill to Grenfell Park just to the west of Maidenhead town centre. Wild Maidenhead will be joining us to plant a hedge here.

Another visit to Little Thriftwood to clear brambles and possibly do some coppicing.

We are going to coppice hazels in the Nuttery, the wood next to the orchard where we were working two weeks ago. The Nuttery hasn’t been coppiced for several years so this is the start of a project for us.

Easter Sunday 9th April Making a view at Battlemead
We will be cutting “windows” in the hedge next to the Thames that we helped to plant a few years ago. This is to give walkers along the Thames Path a view of any wildlife that comes to Battlemead. If time permits we will also give the trees that we planted to the north of East Field some TLC.

23rd April Ockwells Park and Thriftwood, Maidenhead
On Sunday we will be removing tree guards and barbed wire at Ockwells Park and Thriftwood.

The tree guards are next to the shorter fence which encloses three oak trees, over the first bridge and to the right Here What3Words: wished.lots.vase. There are also a few scattered tree guards just north of the orchard.

7th May CANCELLED – BBOWT Woolley Firs, Littlewick Green
WMCV were due to join the Friends of Woolley Firs this Coronation weekend Sunday. However, BBOWT have decided to cancel the FoWF task. We have decided to cancel the WMCV task to rather than try and find a different task at short notice.
21st May Ockwells Park and Thriftwood, Maidenhead
Hundreds of trees have been planted in Thriftwood in the last couple of years. Now that spring has sprung it it possible to tell which of these are still alive. We will be removing the tree guards from the dead whips and weeding the live ones.

18th June Battlemead
We helped to plant trees on the northern boundary of East Field at Battlmead a couple of years ago. Today we are going to weed the trees, some of which are being engulfed by nettles and cleavers.

10th September Braywick Nature Centre, Maidenhead
The first of two visits to Braywick Nature Centre to clear excess vegetation from the right hand side of the pond and cut back vegetation from the edge of the pond. We will return in November to clear the other side.

Bisham Woods is a Woodlands Trust site, their only one in Berkshire. The Woodland Trust are going to mow the area of chalk grassland. Today will be raking off the mowings.

8th October Bisham Woods
Bisham Woods is a Woodlands Trust site, their only one in Berkshire. The Woodland Trust have mowed the steep area of chalk grassland known as Pig Trough and two weeks ago we started to rake off the mowings, but we didn’t finish. So today we are going to finish the job.

The site is on the left hand side of Marlow Road coming from Maidenhead. There is a layby here where you may be able to park. Map

22nd October Bray Pit
Raking the meadow.

Bray Pit used to be managed by BBOWT, but a few years ago they decided not to renew the lease with Summerleaze. Since then local volunteers have continued the management regime including giving it an annual haircut. The wildflower meadow will be mown during the week and then on Sunday WMCV joined by members of Wild Maidenhead will rake off the mowings. This is to reduce the nutrients in the soil and encourage the masses of wild flowers which grow in the summer.

Bray Pit is sandwiched between Bray Sailing Lake and the M4 Here, What3Words: complains.snow.plant.

Park in the public car park at Bray Lake which is reached via Monkey Island Lane. The postcode for Bray Lake Watersports is SL6 2EB, but beware of using this with a satnav as some direct you through Bray Village and this route is not accessible for cars. Map, OS SU909786

This is our annual visit to cut and rake up vegetation from around the pond and possibly to clear excess vegetation from the pond. The pond at Braywick Nature Centre is much used by school parties for pond dipping.
